¿How to give a class of arts from a computer?

by Sofía Salamanca

In 2020 the Covid-19 was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization. According to that, the Colombian government whit the Decree 417 of 2020 declared the Emergency Estate in the country.  Also, since Mach 9 there were emitted protocols for the “new normality". In case of Education organizations, they adopted digital strategies and remote formation, creating a new challenge for the universities to adapt their degrees to these requirements and develop new technologies. ¿How to give a class of arts from a computer? Personally, I had classes of arts in two different universities, and the use of this technologies were not the same.

In 2020 I accessed to the Preparative of Plastic Arts in the district University Francisco José de Caldas, after three weeks of the curse the quarantine was declared. And it lasted to the first’s months of 2022. In the first’s weeks of the confinement, we didn't have classes, and the teacher had to adapt to the use of virtual technologies, as the educative institutions were obligated by the use of TIC (Gomez., Garzón., y Camargo, 2023). According to that, I studied the preparative through the live virtual classes, with platforms like Edmodo and Google Classroom, and Google Meet and Zoom. This caused that any workshop classes to be closed, like the Photography Laboratory. And made other classes seek for new alternative materials, for example, we used soap to create a sculpture. In the other hand, I did curse the two first’s semesters of the Visual Arts in the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana with the same strategy, the virtuality, however, they covered it in a special way. The virtual space was recognized like a new option to create and a place for artistic experimentation, through the integration of digital and technological tools (Javeriana, 2024).

According to my experience, I concluded that the arts have no limits to create and investigate, I think that these is the "magic of arts": make everything out of anything. The technology is one strategy to innovate and search new forms to create and develop new tools, from curiosity and creativity. As result, the virtual technology can't limit or cancelate the artistic creation, it make new spaces.
